The Antichrist

Note: All Scripture quotations found in this article are from the text of the Authorized King James Version of the Bible.

In the Bible there are 18 major types of the Antichrist. These are Cain, Nimrod, Pharaoh, Balak, Sisera, Abimelech, Absalom, Saul, Goliath, Ahab, Jeroboam, Nabal, Sennacherib, Nebuchadnezzar, Haman, Solomon, Herod and Judas.

The Antichrist is called by many names throughout the Bible, such as the Beast out of the sea (Rev. 13:1-8), the son of perdition (2 Thess. 2:3), the wicked (2 Thess. 2:8), the little horn (Dan. 7:8, 8:9), a king(Daniel 8:23), the prince that shall come(Daniel 9:26), the king of the north (Dan. 11:21-45) and the abomination of desolation (Matthew 24:15).

The Antichrist is said to be a genius (Daniel 8:23), eloquent speaker (Daniel 11:36) and he will have political power(Revelation 17:11-13). He will deceive many in the Tribulation (2 Thess. 2:10) and set himself up as god (Daniel 11:36-37, 2 Thess. 2:4,11, Revelation 13:5). He will be empowered by Satan (Revelation 13:2) and briefly rule over the nations in the Tribulation(Revelation 13:6). He will defile the temple (Matthew 24:15). He will not regard the God of his fathers, nor desire women (Daniel 11:37). The Antichrist will have a covenant with Israel, but break it in the middle of the seven years (Daniel 9:27). He will befriend, but later destroy Mystery Babylon (Revelation 17:16-18). Everything he does will be according to his own selfish will (Daniel 11:36) and he will also be the first one to be cast into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 19:20).

The Antichrist will be the leader of Mystery Babylon, which is a political religious system that has no separation of church and state.

Revelation 17:3 "So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns."

Because of his position he will be able to control the buying and selling of goods and will claim to be God.

Revelation 13:15 "And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."

2 Thessalonians 2:4 "Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God."

Mystery Babylon is called a great city which reigns over the kings of the earth in Revelation 17:18. She is connected with wine, political adultery and she is rich (Revelation 17:2,4, 18:10-16). She is connected with the Beast (Revelation 17:3,7). She has a golden cup that signifies her abominable practices and doctrinal fornications (Revelation 17:4). In history and prophecy she is responsible for the blood of the saints (Revelation 17:6). Her city is on seven mountains and her reach is worldwide(Revelation 1:9,15). She professes to be a queen and invincible (Revelation 18:7). Her colors are purple and scarlet (Revelation 17:4).

With all of that said, think about who Mystery Babylon could be. What religion's city is build on seven hills? Who uses a golden cup during Mass? Which false religion is responsible for the blood of the saints in history? Which religion has political power? Which religious system has people dressed in purple and scarlet? It is undoubtedly the religion of Roman Catholicism.

The Antichrist may hold the position of a Roman Catholic Pope or could be a ruler that is in the Roman Catholic Church.  The Pope is already called Holy Father by many (John 17:11).  Scripture calls the Antichrist, the idol shepherd and the Catholic Church has many idols in their churches.  This is why it is very likely the Pope could be the Antichrist or maybe even the False Prophet.

Zechariah 11:17 "Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened."

Because of the phrase "God of his fathers" in Daniel 11:37, we know that the Antichrist will be of the Jewish decent, Syrian through Ham (Isaiah 14:25, Revelation 13:2, Jeremiah 13:23). He is connected to the location of Moab (Jeremiah 48:25). In the middle of the Tribulation he will be killed by the sword with his right hand and eye being wounded (Revelation 13:14). After he dies, the son of perdition will come out of the bottomless pit and will go into the body of the man of sin and then the body will be resurrected (Revelation 17:8-11, 2 Thess. 2:1-4).

The mystery of iniquity talked about in 2 Thessalonians 2:7 is the exact opposite of the mystery of godliness talked about in 1 Timothy 3:16. During the Tribulation, Satan will be manifest in the flesh after he is wounded in the middle of the seven year Tribulation. One of Jesus' disciples were involved in this mystery (John 6:70-71, 17:12). He has both a human nature and Satanic nature. When he died he was said to go to his own place (Acts 1:25) and also has a Hebrew and Greek name just like the king of the bottomless pit (Revelation 9:11).  Iscariot means a man of Kerioth, which is located in Moab. The Son of Perdition is connected to Judas Iscariot, who was also called a devil during the First Coming of Christ (John 6:70).
