Man's Trinity

Note: All Scripture quotations found in this article are from the text of the Authorized King James Version of the Bible.

The Bible teaches that man has three parts. These three parts are the body, soul and spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 "And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Man like God has three parts. Remember that man at first was made in the image of God, who is a Trinity; Father(Soul), Son(Body), Holy Spirit(Spirit).

Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

1 John 5:7 "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."

God made man's body out of the dust of the earth, breathed his spirit into him and then man became a living soul.

Genesis 2:7 "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."

There are many other things in the universe that is made of three parts. Time, space and matter. Space has length, width and depth. There are three races of people, which are Mongoloid(Asiatic) that come from Shem, Negroid that came from Ham and the Caucasians that came from Japheth(Genesis 6:10).

Man's spirit is like a wind. The Greek word for spirit, pneuma, means wind.

John 3:8 "The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit."

Ezekiel 37:9 "Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. 14 And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD."

There are four different kinds of spirits in the Bible. There is a spirit of man, the spirit of a beast(animal), the Spirit of God(Holy Spirit), the spirit of the devil(unclean spirit).

1 Corinthians 2:11 "For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God."

Ecclesiastes 3:21 "Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?"

Until a man is born again, his spirit is a dead spirit. Man has to be Born Again to have a live spirit.

John 3:5 "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."

Ephesians 2:1 "And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;"

The soul of a man is invisible and has the shape of a physical body. This is proved because the rich man that lifted his eyes up in hell had eyes, a tongue and body parts just like a body.

Luke 16:23 "And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame."

The souls in Revelation have a bodily shape that can wear robes.

Revelation 6:9 "And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? 11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled."

When Adam sinned, his spirit died and now we are born in the image of Adam, instead of God. That is why we are not made a son of God until we are Born Again.

Genesis 5:1 "This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; 2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. 3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:"

In the Old Testament, the person's soul was stuck to his body, so when his body sinned, his soul did also. That is why Old Testament salvation is different from salvation today. The Old Testament Saints did not have Eternal Security like Church Age Saints do.

Leviticus 22:6 "The soul which hath touched any such shall be unclean until even, and shall not eat of the holy things, unless he wash his flesh with water."

A Christian's soul and body is separated from each other at salvation. The process of the body and soul being separated is called the Spiritual Circumcision.

Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

Colossians 2:11 "In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;"

After salvation, our body sins, but our soul does not because it is not attached to our body. This explains why 1 John 3:9 says that whoever is born of God does not sin. When we are saved, we receive the Holy Spirit and our soul is separated from our body and that is why we have Eternal Security. As Christians, we still have our flesh that wants to sin. That is why we have to crucify it daily. We can either obey the spirit or the flesh. Christians are like zombies because we have a live spirit and soul with a dead body. The unsaved man has a live body and soul with a dead spirit.

1 John 3:9 "Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God."

Galatians 2:20 "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."

In conclusion, everyone's soul will exist forever and either go to Heaven or Hell. To be saved your spirit must be made alive by being Born Again. To be Born Again, you must realize that you are a sinner and trust the Blood of Jesus Christ alone to save you(Romans 10:9-13).

Matthew 16:26 "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"
